Climate

Darwin enjoys a winter-free tropical climate averaging 30°C (86ºF).

From May to September the days are mild, characterised by gentle southeast trade winds and blue skies; the nights are balmy and cool.

May is the ideal time to see the Territory as it marks the transition from the monsoon season to the dry season. The dry season, from May until October, is characterised by warm, dry sunny days and cool nights. Temperatures typically range from 22°C to 32°C.

Casual clothing is a mark of Darwin lifestyle, but smarter attire is expected in the hotels and restaurants. Pack light, comfortable clothing, good walking shoes and a hat.

Currency

Decimal currency is used in Australia - units are dollars and cents. Current exchange rates can be obtained from your bank. All major credit cards are widely accepted in Australia.

The electrical supply is 240 volts, 50Hz. The connection for appliances is a flat, 3-pin plug of unique design. Most hotels provide 110 volt outlets for shavers.
